Old Sepia photograph from 1937 taken of the attendees of the Annual Banquet of Railway Accounting Officers on June 3, 1937 at the Traymore Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The photograph was taken by Fred Hess & Son at the Traymore Hotel.

Fred Hess & Son were a premier photographer of Atlantic City, New Jersey social events and scenes. This photograph comes from an estate sale in Ohio and likely belonged to one of the people pictured in this photo.

Fred Hess & Son is stamped on the back of the photo along with the locations address in the bottom left corner. Additionally, you can see the stamp or imprint on the photo in Photo#4 indicating the logo and time and date of this banquet.

There are so many different reasons this photograph is fascinating:
*Rail travel was gaining big ground as a luxurious way to travel
*The Traymore Hotel in Atlantic City is quite amazing and it’s demolition in 1972 raised many eyebrows on why it was done (see this link below for some folks thoughts on that!)
*The Atlantic City Boardwalk was in its heyday
*The fashion the people are sporting is quite interesting

Neat little fact I found online about the location of the photo:

The Hotel Traymore of Atlantic City, New Jersey began as a boarding house in 1879. It was rebuilt more than once and expanded. At its peak it could accommodate as many as 1500 guests. The Traymore featured four faucets in every bathtub: hot and cold city water, hot and cold ocean water. There was a fifth faucet in the sink for ice water.
